First things first.....Only 26 years of perfecting the relentless, aggressive swagger of the legend we know as CusWord is not an easy task.....Many have tried, none have succeeded......Born with the government I.D. Jonel Smith, the world knows and recognizes the familiar "CusWord" whenever the name is spoken........
Originally from Los Angeles, California but now based in Portland Me, CusWord absorbed the best and worst of both worlds, also living in Brooklyn, NY before setting up in Memphis. Picking up rap at the age of 11 Smith started on a journey that molded him into rap machine designed to eliminate the industry. Imagine an emcee going through all of three of the major rap-influenced areas......Westcoast/South/Eastcoast and develop a style that is extremely vivid, smooth, but grimy that introduces the listener to an aggressive approach that highlights lyrical content and witty humor. Some earlier works of CusWord have been posted on www.reverbnation.com/CusWord which received excellent reviews, in addition to other websites/info at bottom.
With the long due release of Digital Currency: Vol 1 (which features CusWord heavily as well as other artists) the wait has been shortened for a full length album from CusWord which delivers consistent appearances showcasing a flashy lyric-fest sufficient to please fans who crave "That Riding Music" as he describes it. Given the fact that Currency is entirely produced by Presto++
CusWord shines on tracks such as "K's On Deck" and "Feeling You" feat. Demon Dog
"Riding Music indeed, but so much more.....Listen to what this man says closely, and I bet you rewind the tape........"Presto++
Fortunately Mr.Smith plans to drop a 16-track bomb on the rap world yet to be titled, but reliable sources state that he is possibly two thirds of the way complete already. Currently produced by Presto++, the revolutionary producer who seems to be the next-gen of super-producers who is primarily driven off of complex drums patterns, sweeping effects and trunk-rattling bass which complements Calico's versatile lyric flips to the highest extent. Many wondered why Smith receives first choice on Presto's work, but Out Tha Gate proves that CusWord is the man for the job....
